New BoiseMacs officers: big announcement!

First, a big round of applause to our retiring President. For the past number of years we've had Co-presidents, to spread the joy and the work around, but for the past good while Rik Halsteen has been serving on his own with nary a wimper and a really great spirit and we thank him heartily for all he's done for BoiseMacs. Now: the exciting news is that we have three new Co-presidents! A welcoming round of applause to Marcia Yiapan, JT Ray, and Ron Adams.

Boise Mac stores caught unawares?

Just tweeted:
Neither Best Buy nor Mac Life will have the Snow Leopard family pack until next week. FAIL.

Classes in Nampa on Macs and Photography

There are classes in September, October, and November scheduled covering working with your Mac and working with digital images. They're conducted by Mark Winchester, a regularly contributing presenter at BoiseMacs. Classes include Mastering Mac OSX, Discovering Apple's iPhoto, Working with Digital Images, Photoshop: Hands-on series, How to sell well on eBay, How to choose a camera. For more details, read on.

My experience with MacLife in Boise

Let me start off by saying that your experience may vary. You might have wonderful service. I did not -- and it was so outside the realm of what I'd expect from a company who's taken the step to branch out to a second store that I felt I had to share it with our local MUG. Following our great April meeting on the 8th (thanks again, Mark, for the great maintenance tips) I toodled to the newly-opened downtown Boise MacLife (on 8th and ..erm.. is that Myrtle?), thinking I'd be a good do-bee and patronize a local business instead of ordering from Amazon or some online Mac store.

Reminder on Nampa Photoshop and Apple iLife classes for March

Working With Digital Images series Photoshop/Photoshop Elements basics This class will help you use the key tools and features in this powerful image editing software. I'll suggest a game plan you can use with each image that provides many options, or as few as you desire.

Got pictures? Now what? Digital cameras allow us to take many pictures with ease. This workshop will help you store, organize and back-up your images. We will learn how to share pictures using email, online galleries, and as prints.

Always wanted to be Roger Ebert? We need you.

A local school district is looking for judges to line up for an April event. You don't need to travel there (Mountain Home) to judge. Any interested parties contact Mr. Earl via the mailing list. Here's the blurb:
The Mountain Home School District is pleased to announce our first Film Festival. Like other festivals put on throughout the state, this is chance for student’s to exhibit their work as well as compete for prizes.

Any Boise Boxee users?

It's in "open Alpha" right now (which means it's still being developed, can be buggy, but you don't need a private invitation to try it out). And I've heard it's pretty hot stuff. Anyone in our Mac group give it a try and want to share what they think? I tell you, if I had a newer TV and a spare Apple TV or mini laying around, I'd be all over this.
