Our October meeting on the 8th ("the second Wednesday") was a pretty good one. No blaring music and plenty of good camaraderie.
It being an "even-number" month, there was a prepared presentation -- this one on RSS (what the heck is it and how do I take advantage on my Mac?). Cheryl (that's me!) was presenter.
We started with a Keynote slideshow to introduce
RSS, which some say stands for "really simple syndication". We came to understand that we have the option to go out and visit all the sites and blogs and pages that we're interested in, or we can see that many have that RSS icon or symbol, and we can learn how to let that information come to us, to read when it's convenient to us.
We then watched a 16 minute movie. (It's been uploaded to Vimeo and is available to Boisemacs Members -- just use the same password as for getting into the Members Only area. Here's
the movie we watched.)
Afterward we had a live demonstration of using iTunes to subscribe to videos (like news or special interest podcasts, or -- as Bob pointed out -- "iTunes U"'s university courses from great universities).
As before we then broke into groups, talking about questions or discoveries. Great meeting, you guys. Thanks!
